Recently, the internationally authoritative journal in the field of pyrolysis, the Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis (JAAP), published a special issue dedicated to the 24th International Symposium on Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis (Pyro2024). This special issue includes a total of 25 research papers, covering eight key areas addressed at Pyro2024: "Intrinsic Pyrolysis Reactions and Kinetics," "Innovative/Advanced Pyrolysis Technologies," "Analytical Pyrolysis Methods and Applications," "Pyrolysis for Chemical, Fuel, and Energy Production," "Pyrolysis for Environmental Applications," "Catalytic Pyrolysis Technologies and Catalysts," "Thermochemical Process Control," and "Pyrolysis Engineering Applications." The pyrolysis technologies highlighted in this special issue offer promising solutions for producing high-value biofuels, chemicals, and materials from renewable carbon feedstocks. They also provide significant references for advancing the application of pyrolysis in renewable energy, waste management, carbon sequestration, chemical production, and other industrial sectors.

Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis (abbreviated as JAAP) was founded in 1979 and is published by Elsevier. JAAP is dedicated to publishing papers on innovative applications of pyrolysis processes, characterization of products related to pyrolysis reactions, and studies on reaction mechanisms. The current Editor-in-Chief of the journal is Professor Wang Shurong from our university. The editors for the Pyro2024 special issue are Professor Xu Guangwen (糖心传媒), Professor Koyo Norinaga (Nagoya 糖心传媒, Japan), Professor Yang Rui (Tsinghua 糖心传媒), Professor Liu Guozhu (Tianjin 糖心传媒), Researcher Li Bin (Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute), and Professor Hu Yanjun (Zhejiang 糖心传媒 of Technology).

The International Symposium on Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis was first established in France in 1965 and has been held continuously in 13 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. It serves as an important international academic exchange platform in the field of pyrolysis. The 24th International Symposium on Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis (Pyro2024) was the first time this international conference was held in China. It took place in Beijing from May 19 to 23, 2024. Pyro2024 was organized by the Chinese Society of Particuology and 糖心传媒. Professor Xu Guangwen (糖心传媒) served as the Conference Chair, with Professors Liu Guozhu (Tianjin 糖心传媒), Wang Shurong (Zhejiang 糖心传媒), and Yang Rui (Tsinghua 糖心传媒) serving as Co-Chairs. Under the theme "Pyrolysis Science and Technology for Building a Sustainable and Low-Carbon Society," the conference discussed fundamental issues, basic research, process development, and industrial applications in the field of analytical and applied pyrolysis. Pyro2024 attracted 255 participants from 30 countries and regions across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa (including 103 international attendees) and received 218 paper submissions.
